Parenting through exam season
Dr. Jane N. Kariuki · 6 August 2026 · 4 min read
Exam season compresses a household. Parents want to help and often reach for more supervision, which the young person reads as more pressure.
What tends to work better is protecting the ordinary: meals together, sleep held as non-negotiable, and one conversation a week that is explicitly not about results.
If the change in mood outlasts the exam period by more than a few weeks, it is worth talking to someone.
